SUPPORTING THE WORCESTER SPIRIT
It was always the aim of the Worcester Merchant Navy Cadetship Scheme, founded in 2022, that it should be self-sustaining. That is that it should raise enough capital to fund the training of at least one cadet a year from interest.
By 2024 just on £200,000 had been raised but is rapidly being spent on cadets already in training. There is therefore an urgent need to raise more money to ensure the long term success of the scheme, and to ensure the future of the British maritime industry.
A donation, however small, will help us fulfil our ambition of enabling young men and women to live their dreams of a career in the maritime industries, initially at sea but later, perhaps, in senior positions ashore leading the industry in the pre-eminent position that Britain has always enjoyed as a maritime nation.
The scheme also enjoys close links to the Royal Navy and some training is carried out in Royal Navy ships to give our cadets as wide a variety of seagoing experience as possible.
Making a donation, or leaving a legacy is easy and both methods are accessible by means of the subscription form here. Alternatively you can open a Direct Debit with your bank by means of a simple form obtainable from them.
All of these methods of assisting are eligible for tax relief if you are a UK tax payer. Direct donations and standing orders are eligible for Gift Aid increasing any donation by 25%. Legacies offer the potential for the donor’s estate to avoid inheritance tax of 40%.Whichever way you choose to assist, please keep the Association’s Honorary Secretary informed here.
